What We Know: Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has filed lawsuits involving two animal care facilities in southwest Missouri.

In West Plains, inspectors reported overcrowded dog enclosures, pest problems and repeated refusals to allow inspections at Rocky Top K9.

In Carthage, the owner of The Dog House is accused of operating a boarding kennel without a valid license and refusing inspections.

A Jasper County judge has already ruled against the Carthage operator.

What’s Next: Hanaway says the state is seeking penalties and court orders to make sure both facilities follow Missouri’s animal welfare laws.
