What We Know: Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has filed a lawsuit against Lorex Corporation, alleging the home security and baby monitor company concealed ties to a manufacturer linked to the Chinese military.
Hanaway’s office claims Lorex failed to disclose those connections to consumers and retailers while marketing its products as secure and private.
What It Means: The lawsuit alleges researchers found Lorex software routed through Dahua systems, raising concerns about potential access to user data collected through cameras used inside homes and nurseries.
Lorex products have been sold through major retailers, including Best Buy, Costco, Staples, Menards and Office Depot, as well as online marketplaces.
What’s Next: Filed in Jefferson County Circuit Court, the lawsuit seeks restitution of up to $1,000 for Missouri consumers who purchased Lorex cameras during the past five years.
