What We Know: Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick has launched a performance audit of the Missouri Department of Revenue’s customer service, saying complaints from residents prompted the review.
The audit will examine how the department serves Missourians as they file tax returns, license vehicles and renew driver’s licenses.
What it Means: The goal is to identify ways to improve customer service and make those everyday processes easier.
Fitzpatrick said his office regularly hears from people frustrated by long wait times, confusing procedures and difficulties working with the department. In addition to citizen complaints, the auditor’s office also receives whistleblower reports about customer service issues.
What’s Next: The auditor’s office is asking anyone with information related to the review to come forward.
