What We Know: The Missouri State Highway Patrol has a reminder for drivers when a police pursuit is coming up behind you — pay attention and move over.
What IT Means: Troop D Sergeant Mike McClure says troopers constantly evaluate whether a pursuit is safe to continue, looking at traffic, road conditions, and the time of day.
McClure says drivers can help by regularly checking their mirrors. If you see emergency lights coming from behind, move as far to the right as safely possible and give officers room to pass.
And don’t assume there’s only one emergency vehicle.
The Patrol says staying alert and giving emergency vehicles plenty of room can help keep everyone on the road safer.
