What We Know: More than 1,100 Missouri school buses will need repairs before students head back to class this fall.
What It Means: The Missouri State Highway Patrol recently completed its annual school bus inspection program and found 849 buses with defects that must be fixed within 10 days. Another 283 buses were placed out of service.
Buses classified as out of service cannot carry students until repairs are made and the vehicles pass a follow-up inspection by the highway patrol.
Despite those findings, the vast majority of Missouri’s school buses passed inspection.
What’s Next: More than 10,000 buses were approved for operation during the statewide review.
The yearly inspections are designed to catch mechanical and safety issues before the school year begins, helping ensure students have a safe ride to and from school.
