Ozarks Dealing with Rare Heat

What We Know: The Heat is on across the Ozarks, with heat warnings now extending into Sunday evening. Despite popular belief, reaching the 100° mark is not normal for the area. In fact, the last time we made it to 100° was nearly three years ago on August 20, 2023.

Before 2026, it had been 9 years since the century mark was reached on August 24, 2014.

There are years that are out of the norm. You may remember the extreme heat of 2012 when Springfield officially hit 100° or above 17 times.

If you’re wondering about the hottest temperature ever recorded in the state of Missouri, it’s 113°, on July 14, 1954.

While the threat for triple-digit temperatures last through the weekend, a cool-down in the form of mid-90’s will arrive by the start of next week.
