What We Know: A long-time televangelist who rebuilt his ministry in the Ozarks has died. Jim Bakker was 86.
What It Means: Bakker became nationally known in the 1980s as host of the PTL Club with his former wife, Tammy Faye.
He later served several years in federal prison after being convicted of fraud and conspiracy connected to his Heritage USA ministry.
After his release, Bakker eventually moved to the Branson area with his second wife, Lori. He returned to television ministry and later began broadcasting The Jim Bakker Show from the Morningside development near Branson.
Bakker remained in the Ozarks for much of the rest of his life.
