Raising Awareness About Nitzaenes

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department, Springfield Fire Department, and Greene County Sheriff’s Department are collaborating to raise awareness about the increasing presence of nitazenes, a potent class of synthetic opioids, in Missouri.

Following the detection of nitazenes in wastewater across the state, an alert was issued by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

Nitazenes are found in counterfeit pills, and unregulated vape and cannabis products.

They are more potent than fentanyl with a higher risk of overdose.
