Following an incident on June 20th resulting in a misdemeanor, Terry McConnell has resigned from his position as Republic School Board President.
What We Know: In a statement sent out Friday morning, the Republic School Board says it received McConnell’s resignation as President.
McConnell was charged with misdemeanor fourth-degree assault after an incident in his home on June 20th.
According to the Greene County Circuit Court, deputies responded to the home where a victim reported McConnell woke her, and then pointed a pistol at his own head. The two reportedly fought over the gun with McConnell allegedly shoving the victim, resulting in them getting several visible abrasions. The victim managed to get the gun unloaded and put into a safe.
Investigators say that McConnell admitted to taking out the gun while he was arguing with the victim and that he was intoxicated during the incident. There were also two juveniles present in the home at the time.
McConnell was elected to the Republic Board of Education in April 2023 and was appointed President in April of this year.
What They’re Saying: In a statement sent to Republic School District families and employees, the school board said that the resignation came “as a result of personal matters.”
The school board stated that a special reorganization meeting would be scheduled in the next few weeks for members to accept McConnell’s resignation and elect new officers.
