The Springfield Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that has left one man dead and a woman injured at the 505 Apartments on East St. Louis Street.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired around 11:21 p.m. on Wednesday at the apartment complex.
When they arrived on the scene, authorities found 21-year-old Xavier Scott of Springfield deceased inside one of the units. His next of kin has been notified.
Officers also found a female victim with non-life-threatening injuries, and she was taken to a hospital for treatment.
According to a press release from the Springfield Police Department, a suspect has been identified and taken into custody. Information on the suspect has not been released by authorities.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and are asking anyone with information on the shooting to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or to make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477).
This is Springfield’s 9th homicide investigation of the year.
