Even though there’s been a year-long ban on gambling machines in Springfield, Police Chief Paul Williams reports some businesses persist in operating them due to high profits.
While compliance has improved to roughly two-thirds of inspected sites, he believes only harsher penalties—including criminal charges, jail, or license revocation—will deter owners.
Williams also expressed frustration with machine suppliers for not removing the devices.
