What We Know: Springfield police and downtown bars are cracking down on fake IDs as Halloween crowds head downtown.
What it Means: Earlier this month, police cited eight minors for alcohol possession and issued another citation for supplying alcohol to minors during a downtown enforcement operation.
John Chace, owner of The Dive on Patton, says his staff is watching closely for fake IDs. He plans to add security during Halloween celebrations, especially since costumes and face paint make it harder to match customers to their ID photos.
Springfield Police Lieutenant Jason Copley says officers will also increase their presence downtown as larger crowds are expected for the Halloween pub crawl.
What’s Next: Police warn that using a fake ID can lead to criminal charges, fines and possible jail time.
They’re also reminding anyone heading downtown to stay with friends, pay attention to their surroundings and have a safe ride home planned.
