What We Know: The Springfield Cardinals have a new name.

What It Means: The Double-A baseball team is now the Ozarks Springbirds, beginning a new chapter for professional baseball in Springfield.

Vice President and General Manager Dan Reiter unveiled the new name, uniforms, and logos Tuesday night. He said the goal was to create an identity that connects Springfield with the entire Ozarks while keeping the team’s ties to the St. Louis Cardinals.

“We just needed to create a connection that was more uniquely us,” Reiter said.

The team’s new slogan is “Our city. Our region. Our birds.”

What’s Next: The name change closes a 22-year run for the Springfield Cardinals. Reiter said 153 former Springfield players have gone on to play for St. Louis. Springfield also won Texas League championships in 2012 and 2025.

And one familiar face isn’t going anywhere.

Reiter confirmed Louie will remain the team’s mascot as the Ozarks Springbirds prepare for their first season under the new name.
