What We Know: The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce is opposing Amendment 6 on Missouri’s November ballot.
What It Means: The Chamber’s board voted Monday to oppose the measure, saying it could make it harder for state lawmakers to fix problems with voter-approved laws.
Under the proposal, changes to certain voter-approved laws would need support from 80 percent of both legislative chambers before going back to voters for approval.
Chamber President Matt Morrow says businesses need some flexibility when new laws create unexpected problems.
He points to Missouri’s voter-approved paid sick leave requirement, which lawmakers repealed last year while keeping the minimum wage increase.
What’s Next: Amendment 6 goes before Missouri voters November third.
