The City of Springfield’s Citizen Advisory Board halted operations in March after three members were found to not live in the city, making them ineligible to serve on the board.

What We Know: The Citizen Advisory Board, meant to have nine total members, is currently only sitting at five after three members were removed in March after it was discovered they did not live in the city. Another member moved away, making the total vacancies on the board four. They have not met since February 25th.

What It Means: Before they paused operations in March, the board were working on a variety of projects, including the city sales tax, the art museum expansion, the proposed convention center, and more.

The board’s vice chair, Rusty Worley, says that it is crucial for the board to get up and running again to resume recommending how to invest the Spring Forward SGF tax.

“The Spring Forward tax is really critical for the city of Springfield for its future. Over the next 10 years, that sales tax will generate $340 million,” said Worley.

What’s Next: The five remaining members of the board will continue to serve until their terms are up. The City of Springfield is accepting applications for the board’s open positions through June 10th.
