What We Know: With cooler weather moving in, Springfield City Utilities has some advice to help keep those heating bills under control.

What It Means: City Utilities spokesperson Jamie Presley says now is the time to check your furnace and change the filter. She recommends changing filters three times a year to keep things running efficiently.

And with higher fuel and operating costs, customers could see their electric bills go up.

Presley recommends setting your thermostat at 68 degrees and checking for available rebates.

What’s Next: If you use a fireplace, experts recommend having it inspected and serviced once a year.

And if you’re having trouble paying your utility bill, City Utilities says give them a call to discuss your options.
