From a Greene County Sheriff’s Office News Release:
On January 23rd, 2023 a Greene County Deputy located a stolen red 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 in the area of Glenstone Avenue and McClernon Street. The Deputy initiated a traffic stop, but the stolen vehicle fled north into Greene County and a traffic pursuit ensued. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was later identified as, Jason Gideon, age 41 of Springfield. As the pursuit continued into Greene County, Fair Grove Police Department was able to get into position to set up spike strips near Shelby Road and US Highway 65. The stolen vehicle struck the spike strips causing the front passenger side tire to deflate.
As the Deputy continued to pursue the stolen vehicle north on US Highway 65, Jason Gideon, retrieved a firearm from inside the vehicle and began shooting at the Greene County Deputy. Jason Gideon fired multiple rounds at the Deputy from inside the cab of the stolen vehicle. Near the 73.8-mile marker on US 65, Jason Gideon drove the stolen vehicle into the median and crashed into the guide wires, bringing the vehicle to a stop. Gideon was quickly taken into custody by Greene County Deputies.
Multiple firearms were located inside the cab of the stolen vehicle, at least one had been reported stolen.
Jason Gideon will be charged with Assault 1st Degree or Attempt Serious Physical Injury or Special Victim, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Criminal Action, Felony Resisting Arrest by Fleeing, Armed Criminal Action, Tampering with a Motor Vehicle and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm with No Bond.
