The Springfield Police Department conducted a four-hour “Move Over or Get Pulled Over” enforcement on August 2nd to educate drivers about Missouri’s Move Over Law.

The enforcement period took place on Kansas Expressway between Sunshine St. and Mt. Vernon St., and a total of 20 vehicles were stopped by officers.

10 of those drivers were issued citations for traffic violations and one was arrested for DWI.

“When drivers fail to move over for emergency vehicles, they put lives at risk including their own,” Lieutenant Steve Schwind, commander of the SPD’s Traffic Unit, said in a press release, “The enforcement effort is about more than just citations. It’s about making sure everyone gets safely home. When you see emergency lights activated on the shoulders of the roadway, move over and slow down.”
