Missouri State Highway Patrol has awarded the Springfield Public Schools district the Total Fleet Excellence Award for the 26th year in a row.
What We Know: SPS will be going into the new school year with a 98.6% passing rate across its 146 school buses from the MSHP’s annual state safety inspection. SPS says it is the highest inspection score they have gotten since 2017.
For the 26th consecutive year, the district was given the Total Fleet Excellence Award.
What It Means: Bus drivers and attendants in the district work hard to keep their vehicles in great shape for the students every school year. Over the summer, they deep clean and complete proactive maintenance checks on every vehicle in the fleet.
The drivers also undergo a mandatory eight-hour safety training course.
SPS transportation leaders say that more vehicles are being added to the fleet including new special needs buses equipped with front mounted wheelchair lifts designed to give a smoother ride.
