What We Know: Springfield Police arrested four impaired drivers during a weekend crackdown on dangerous driving.
The department teamed up with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol and other local agencies for a 10-hour saturation patrol Saturday.
The effort was organized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
What It Means: Springfield officers stopped 39 vehicles during the operation. Six drivers were arrested. Four were accused of impaired driving, while two others were picked up on outstanding warrants.
Police also handed out 21 other citations. Those included speeding, driving without insurance, running a stop sign, and helmet violations.
Officers used marked patrol vehicles and focused on driving behaviors commonly associated with intoxicated drivers.
What’s Next: Police are using the results as another reminder to have a plan before drinking. A DWI can mean jail time, losing your license, higher insurance costs, and plenty of legal bills.
The saturation patrol was funded through a Missouri Department of Transportation traffic safety grant.
