What We Know: Springfield has a plan to slow drivers down on East Bennett Street.
What It Means: The city is proposing narrower lanes, raised crosswalks, and a new multi-use path along about a mile and a half of the roadway.
Project Manager Lexi Hunsucker says the city has heard complaints about speeding and other safety concerns along Bennett.
The plan also calls for improved sidewalks, stormwater work and better access for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The city held a public meeting Monday night to get feedback on the preliminary plans.
What’s Next: Construction, however, could still be a ways off. The project is not yet funded, and there is no timeline for when work could begin.
