What We Know: It’s been about eight months since Springfield installed speed humps on several neighborhood streets near Highway 65, and residents say they’re making a difference — just maybe not a perfect one.
What It Means: The city installed the humps in December along East Bennett and Linwood streets, along with John and Gelvin avenues.
It was part of a pilot program aimed at slowing drivers down after neighbors raised concerns about speeding.
But the speed humps haven’t stopped everybody.
What’s Next: So, eight months later, the neighborhood verdict appears to be a little mixed.
The humps are slowing down some drivers, but they’re certainly not putting an end to speeding.
Springfield originally planned to collect traffic data after the installation to determine how well the pilot program was working.
The city did not provide an update on those numbers or whether similar speed humps could eventually be installed in other Springfield neighborhoods.
