What We Know: As we approach the end of June 2026 many people across the Ozarks are sick of hearing the sirens and reports of severe weather on the way. The Ozarks have experienced an unusually active severe weather season with numerous localized severe storm outbreaks usually accompanied by flooding and the risk of tornados. On top of the usual severe weather, an unbelievable hailstorm occurred Tuesday April 28th with soft-ball sized hail causing millions of dollars in damage to vehicles and houses.

“Yeah, I get it” said Angela Forest, a ten year resident of Springfield’s West Central neighborhood “but this year has been terrible, much more than usual and I’m sick of it. I know we live in tornado alley and you come to expect this, but enough is enough!” Many are sick of hearing the sirens.

So far June is setting major rainfall records in the Ozarks and is on track to become the wettest June in 20 years.

What Remains Unclear: Governor Kehoe has requested federal FEMA aid for multiple counties in Missouri. How much longer can these severe storms threaten the Ozarks? The extended forecast for the Ozarks shows the region slowly shifting from a wet stormy pattern to a hot and humid heatwave heading into July. Weather patterns in the Ozarks are subject to change quickly and are unpredictable but the time for tornados is drawing to a close and a hot summer is ahead.
