Suspect in Springfield Convenience Store Shooting Identified

A man is in custody in connection with a shooting at a convenience store in Springfield over the weekend.

According to investigators, police were called the scene at around six p.m. on Sunday, March 12 to investigate a report of shots fired.

Officers then went to a local hospital, where they discovered a victim with a gunshot wound.

The victim told police that he had gotten into an argument with another man at the Git N Go on South Jefferson.

He said the suspect went into the store and came out holding a handgun and shot him in the chest.

Prosecutors say 23-year-old Tavian Cannon was arrested in connection on March 14 and has been charged with:

  • First-degree Assault
  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon
  • Two counts of Armed Criminal Action

He is being held in the Greene County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The victims injuries have been described as serious, but he is in stable condition.
