Teenager From Marshfield Sentenced in Fatal Stabbing

A teenager from Marshfield has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the stabbing death of a man in 2023.

Thomas Smith, Jr. and his girlfriend, Alissa Staples, were accused of stabbing to death Shawn Ellingburg during an altercation.

Smith was originally charged with first degree murder, but that charge was reduced to involuntary manslaughter as part of a plea agreement.

Staples is on trial now in the case.
