There is a bill, SB 977, sponsored by Republican Missouri State Senator Nick Schroer that is about to become law in Missouri and is greatly important but not getting much attention in the press.
Originally referred to as the “No Sharia Act”, it is now more properly referred to as “No Foreign Laws Act”.
Missouri Senate Bill 977 establishes the No Foreign Laws Act which prohibits the state from applying or enforcing foreign laws that violate fundamental liberties. It prevents international organizations such as the World Health Organization, the World Economic Forum and the United Nations from exercising regulatory jurisdiction within Missouri.
The bill restricts state courts from enforcing foreign judgements, contracts, or arbitration decisions that violate fundamental rights or are inconsistent with public policy.
Senator Schroer and other bill supporters have pointed to the COVID-19 pandemic as a particular era where Missouri ran into issues with foreign laws being enforced, citing mask-mandates and other pandemic-related precautions recommended by the World Health Organization.
Similar legislation has been proposed across the country on both a state and local level.
This bill will protect the sovereign rights of the citizens of Missouri from outside influences who don’t always have our best wishes in mind, and would apply laws or concepts that are “foreign” to us.
This bill is scheduled to go into effect August 28, 2026.
