Severe thunderstorms swept through Missouri on July 4th, causing widespread damage, including downed powerlines.

What We Know: Thousands of residents in central Missouri, specifically in Miller, Morgan, Cole, Camden and Osage counties, are still without power several days after the storms.

The storms, which brought wind gusts estimated between 70 and 80 mph, caused several utility poles to snap, leaving transformers on the group and creating electrical hazards.

What They’re Saying: Co-Mo Electric Cooperative and Southwest Electric Cooperative, companies that service the area, say they are close to restoring power to all customers.

Co-Mo representatives say that the “plan for the day remains to have power restored to all members by this evening.”

Southwest reported it is down to only 100 customers without power and expects to complete restoration efforts soon.
