It was announced by the Springfield-Greene County Park Board this week that the outdoor pools at both Grant Beach and Westport will be closed this summer due to damage.
Pre-season inspections conducted by staff found major infrastructure damage at the Westport pool including separated drain pipes with substantial water loss amounting to 1/3 of the pools capacity.
The Grant Beach pool has been closed since the severe storm damage of April 29th when the poolhouse roof was lifted and destroyed. Construction is not expected to be finished until August.
The Park Board is conducting a serious evaluation concerning long-term repair needs and the responsible investment of public funds at all outdoor pools.
In order to off-set the closures, the Park Board is expanding access to other area pools including extending the daily pricing by 30 minutes, offering $1 admission or free admission with a canned food donation, benefiting the Ozarks Food Harvest from 5-6:30 p.m. and continuing to offer indoor pool access at Chesterfield and Doling Family Centers seven days a week with discounted admission Mon-Thurs starting June 1st.
The outdoor pool season runs June 1s to August 16th.
