United Express flight returns to Springfield-Branson National Airport after being struck by lightning

An aircraft emergency was declared at the Springfield-Branson National Airport after a United Express aircraft was reportedly struck by lightning twice near the Missouri-Arkansas border Tuesday morning.

The flight safely returned to Springfield and no injuries were reported for the passengers and crew.

Emergency crews responded to the airport just before 7:30 AM Tuesday after the aircraft emergency was declared.

Airport officials say that the aircraft that was struck will undergo further inspection before it is allowed to depart.
