UPDATE: 5-Year-Old Girl Dies After Stockton Lake Incident

What We Know: A 5-year-old girl from Sheldon has died after being pulled from Stockton Lake earlier this week.

What It Means: The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the girl was pronounced dead Wednesday morning at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Her family has been notified.

The child was reported missing on Monday from the Ruark East Campground at Stockton Lake.

The Highway Patrol said a boater found her in about five feet of water and immediately brought her to shore, where lifesaving efforts began.

When Dade County deputies arrived, CPR was already in progress. Deputies assisted until Cox EMS transported the girl by ambulance for advanced medical treatment.

Several agencies responded to the emergency, including the Dade County Sheriff’s Office, the Missouri Department of Conservation, park rangers, Cox EMS, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and several citizens who assisted at the scene.

What’s Next: Because the incident occurred on Stockton Lake, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.

Authorities have not released the child’s name. No additional information about the circumstances surrounding the drowning has been released.
