What We Know: Volunteers will hit the water June 13 to help clean up one of the Ozarks’ most treasured waterways.

What It Means: The annual River Rescue cleanup will cover a six-mile stretch of the lower James River near Galena, with participants collecting trash, tires and other debris along the route.

The event is free, and volunteers are encouraged to bring their own boats, although a limited number of canoes will be available.

After the cleanup, participants can enjoy a free lunch.

Everyone on the water must wear a life jacket.

Children ages 12 and older may participate with an adult, and anyone under 18 must have adult supervision throughout the event.

What’s Next: Registration is required. If weather or river conditions become unsafe, the cleanup will move to June 27.

For more information or to register, contact the James River Basin Partnership at 417-353-2812.
