What We Know: One of the most closely watched issues on Tuesday’s Missouri ballot is Amendment 3.

What It Means: Two years ago, voters approved an amendment with the same number, establishing constitutional protections for reproductive health care, including abortion.

This year’s Amendment 3 would reverse those protections and allow abortion restrictions again, with exceptions for rape, incest, medical emergencies and certain fetal conditions.

Supporters of the measure dispute claims that emergency medical care would be threatened. They say women would continue to receive treatment for miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies and other medical emergencies.

What’s Next: Voters will decide Tuesday whether to keep the protections approved in 2024 or replace them with new restrictions.
