What We Know: Webster County 911 is taking steps to make sure emergency calls can still be answered when severe weather strikes.

What It Means: The dispatch center is accepting bids for a new storm shelter to protect employees during tornadoes.

Director Dan McMillan says the current building wouldn’t survive a direct hit, and the basement isn’t suitable for dispatchers.

What’s Next: The shelter is expected to cost between 10 and 13-thousand dollars.

McMillan says dispatchers could also use a new mobile dispatch van if the center loses phone service.

Bids are due Friday, October 16th, with hopes of completing the shelter by the end of the year.
