West Plains Man Trial Set for Infant Death

A West Plains man is set to stand trial in September of 2024 for his alleged role in the death of an infant.

In August of 2022, Levi Coffel was caring for 4 small children, including an infant, at home alone. Coffel had placed the infant in a bathtub in a bath seat, left the room, and returned to find the infant submerged underwater.

When police arrived on the scene, Coffel was found to be intoxicated, and provided police with an inconsistant account of what took place.

He is being charged with abuse and neglect of a child resulting in death. The jury trial is set on September 4-6, 2024. He is also set to appear at a pretrial conference on July 22, 2024.
