Wind Advisory and High Danger for Grass Fires in the Ozarks Thursday

national weather service wind advisory 2 8 24

Winds out the south will increase Thursday, with gusts of 35 to 45 miles per hour.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for areas along and north of I-44, including the Springfield Metro Area, through 6 p.m. Thursday.

The combination of high wind gusts, warm temperatures near 70 degrees and low relative humidity levels are combining to create a very high to significant grass fire danger.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning the same areas as the Wind Advisory from Noon to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Forecasters say the highest threat is in open grassland, where fine fuels are drier. Fuel moisture in wooded locations is generally higher.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly, and outdoor burning is not recommended.
