Man Sentenced for Stabbing Woman with Screwdriver in Springfield

A man will spend a decade in prison after allegedly stabbing a women with a screwdriver in Springfield.

28-year-old Joesi Simpson was sentenced this week to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to domestic assault, but was given credit for time served.

Investigators say Simpson was living in a car with his girlfriend for several months, allegedly holding her hostage.

The incident of the case took place on March 6, when he told the victim he was stashing drugs in the car. When she refused, he hit the car repeatedly with a tire iron and stabbed her with the screwdriver.

The victim also says Simpson forced her to use meth.

As part of his guilty plea, he will spend time in treatment due to his substance abuse.
