Strong to Severe Thunderstorms Expected Thursday Afternoon and Evening Along and East of Highway 65

UPDATE: Scattered showers started developing west of Springfield late Thursday morning. The National Weather Service says coverage will increase through the afternoon, with storms developing roughly along the Highway 65 corridor, moving off to the east. There will be a risk of hail up to the size of golf balls with the strongest storms. The Storm Prediction Center indicates a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is likely to be issued for areas roughly along and east 65.

Original Story: We have the potential for a few strong to severe thunderstorms across the Ozarks Thursday afternoon into the evening hours.

The National Weather Service says the highest chances for severe storms will be across south-central Missouri.

Large hail, damaging wind gusts and cloud to ground lightning will be the biggest threats.

These storms will fire up in the early afternoon hours, generally along the I-44 corridor, and increase in coverage and intensity as they push eastward.
