A former student and football player at Evangel will spend several years in prison for his role in the shooting death of a former track athlete at the university.

Terry Robinson, who played running back for the Valor for four years from 2017-2020, was found guilty back in September of this year for accidentally shooting and killing his friend Tyree Crenshaw, a freshman and Springfield native who was a track athlete at Evangel.

Investigators say Robinson was messing with the gun at a home on North Jefferson Avenue in April of 2020 when the weapon went off, striking Crenshaw in the stomach.

Robinson initially reported the shooting as a drive-by before ultimately admitting to the accidental nature of the crime.

Crenshaw was transported to an area hospital in an ambulance, but died before arrival.

Robinson was convicted in September of second-degree manslaughter and making a false report. He was sentenced to three years in prison and 180 days in jail, respectively, with those to be served concurrently, not consecutively.
