Grandfather from Clinton Charged with Shooting, Killing His Grandson

A man from Clinton is in custody on charges stemming from the shooting death of his own grandson.

Investigators say 70-year-old Thomas Ribby shot and killed 16-year-old Royce Osburn at a home in Clinton earlier this week.

According to police, Ribby and Osburn were playing with the gun when it discharged, shooting the teenager in the back.

Osburn’s mother, the daughter of Ribby, witnessed the entire event.

Ribby is charged with endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death and resisting arrest.

Ribby claims he didn’t know that the gun had a bullet in the chamber. He is being held on $100,000 bond.
