Homemade Gun Found in Camper, Man from Mountain Home Arrested

A man from Mountain View is in custody after authorities found a homemade gun in his camper.

Howell County Sheriff’s Deputies say a search warrant was executed at a camper owned by Johnson Burks on January 12, where they found the weapon, as well as meth inside of a cigarette pack, drug needles, and other paraphernalia.

Investigators say the gun was ready for lethal use and was less than the minimum 18 inches required by federal law.

Burks was arrested, and authorities discovered previous convictions for stealing a motor vehicle and resisting arrest, as well as drug charges.

Prosecutors have charged him with possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of an illegal weapon.

Burks has been booked into the Howell County Jail.
