As the summer heat increases, it is important to remember that you shouldn’t leave things in a hot, unventilated vehicle.

Springfield-Greene County Emergency Management says leaving children, the elderly, and pets in an unventilated car for more than 20 minutes can be life threatening and is a felony in some communities.

They also say some objects should not be left in cars.

High heat can cause chemicals in plastic drinking bottles to melt into water causing health problems. Also leaving batteries in a hot car can damage them.

Emergency Management says the temperature in a car can increase 20 degrees in only 10 minutes.
