The City of Springfield has kicked off the nearly $13 million Jefferson Avenue Footbridge Rehabilitation Project.
The city held a ceremony on Wednesday to kick off the beginning of construction.
Attendees watched as the construction company removed pieces of the bridge.
They also were allowed to sign a new metal beam to be used in the restoration.
The estimated date for completion is 2026.
