Man from Pulaski County Sentenced for Murder Charge

A man from Pulaski County has been sentenced for murdering a man near Dixon.

Brandon Veasman was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Mark Ethington in September of 2021.

Ethington’s body was found near his home on Highway MM just north of Dixon.

Veasman was initially charged with first-degree murder, but pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder in March of this year.

In a statement from Prosecutor Kevin Hillman, he expressed relief that a person with the criminal history of Veasman will no longer be on the streets.

Hillman said, “I am very happy that someone as dangerous and with a very long criminal history as Brandon Veasman will be off the streets forever and in prison where he belongs.”

Another suspect in the case, Cherie Kelly, faces charges of hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence and will be in court on Tuesday.
