A man has been sentenced in federal court for illegally possessing a firearm.

A judge sentenced 37-year-old Lloyd Mathis of Rogersville to seven years in prison without parole for being a felon in possession of a firearm Thursday.

Mathis was on the run from Oklahoma on outstanding warrants, when U-S Marshals and police caught up with him in a Springfield parking lot.

During the struggle to arrest him, officers found he had a firearm strapped to his body.
