A man from Springfield faces criminal animal abuse charges after allegedly killing a cat.
According to court dockets, Dantes Ramos is charged with animal abuse, a class A misdemeanor, after admitting to a woman via text messages that he had picked up her 7-month-old cat by the chest and slammed it against the ground.
The woman took the cat to a veterinarian, where it was ultimately euthanized due to its severe injuries, which included a shattered skull.
A warrant has been issued for Ramos’ arrest. If convicted, he faces one year in jail or a $2,000 fine.
