A man from Springfield will spend over two decades in prison almost three years after he allegedly shot and killed another man.

Investigators say in June of 2021, Mickal Johnson shot and killed Christopher Kruder point blank along Atlantic Street in Springfield.

Prosecutors in the case said Kruder got into the middle of an argument Johnson was having with a woman, which led to the shooting.

Johnson had a previous criminal history, which included a burglary charge that put him on probation and prohibited him from having a firearm. He was also allegedly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, which was also prohibited.

He was found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm and second-degree murder, and sentenced to 22 years in prison.
