A man from Springfield is awaiting his court date on animal abuse charges after authorities say he killed a dog using a garden hoe.

According to the report, Springfield-Greene County Health Department animal control officers were called to a home in the 1400 block of Summit Avenue in March of this year.

While at the property, investigators located a charred animal leg in a burn pile in the backyard.

Authorities say they later discovered that the tenant of the home, Andrew Langley, had been evicted from the residence earlier that same day.

It was Langley himself who showed officers to the burn pile, admitted that it was a dog’s remains, and that he had “put the dog down” with the garden hoe.

He has been charged with one count of animal abuse in the case, and will be due in court on November 4 at 9:00am.
