A man from Springfield who is charged with murder will now spend several years in prison for domestic assault.
Investigators say Jacob Dejong was arrested on December 1, 2023 after he allegedly assaulted his mother for hiding alcohol from him.
Authorities say he was arrested again weeks later for kicking his then-pregnant girlfriend in the stomach and knocking her off the bed.
He was out on bond for a separate indictment, in which Dejong is accused of killing 74-year-old Larry Woods in Springfield in August of 2021.
Dejong was sentenced to 12 years in prison in February of this year for the beating death of Woods following a guilty plea.
He was sentenced earlier this month to four years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree domestic assault.
