Man from Springfield Pleads Guilty to Hit-and-Run that Killed One

A man from Springfield is now awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman.

Investigators say 56-year-old Rodney Shires was driving his motorcycle along Fremont Avenue when 59-year-old Sandra Brown attempted to cross the road.

Shires allegedly hit her with his motorcycle, then fled the scene on foot.

He alleges that she was already on the ground when he hit her, and that another car behind him ran over Brown afterwards.

Shires told authorities that after the crash, he stood up and realized his hand was broken, then left because he was “freaked out”.

Authorities discovered that Shires did not have a valid drivers license in Missouri, and his license had been suspended and revoked 10 times in Arkansas prior.

He pleaded guilty this week to leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident. His sentencing has been scheduled for March 7.
