Man from Springfield Sentenced for Allegedly Carjacking Woman at Gunpoint

A man from Springfield will spend over two decades in prison for allegedly stealing a woman’s car and threatening her with a gun.

Donny Finnegan was sentenced Thursday to 22 years in prison on charges of:

  • Vehicle Hijacking
  • First-degree tampering with a motor vehicle
  • First-degree robbery

Investigators say Finnegan approached the 73-year-old victim in the parking lot of the Walgreens on East Republic in May of 2022.

The woman told authorities that he approached her and they had a brief conversation, then he pulled out a gun.

She told police that Finnegan said, “because I like dogs, I’m going to let you live.” He then stole her car and fled the scene.

KWTO is unsure if Finnegan will be eligible for parole during his time in prison.
